THE GENTLEMEN DRIVER
The horse has always been a good friend of the humans and also in modern times his contribution remains of great utility and importance. He is no more a working instrument or a mean of transport, but a privileged companion with whom one can get in touch with nature, which is a strong need in the present times. The horse now means ecology, but is also a friend for life and a clever activity for the leisure time.
And, last but not least, a wonderful companion of a real sport activity.
These are the needs horseracing responds to with the category of the Gentlemen Drivers (the amateur drivers who practise agonistic harness). The amateurs have the task to colligatehorseracing with the rest of the society, where each one of them operates in his own profession, having therefore the possibility of spread his passion for the horse and for the trot races.
THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
Within this activity every year the Gentlemen Drivers World Championship takes place, this year it will be held in Italy.
The 2006 edition of the Series is organised by Federnat (the association of the Italian gentlemen, who also performs every year and important cultural venture in occasion of its annual meeting) and by Ippodromi & Città (the racing society who manages the Italian tracks of Rome, Naples, Florence and Sienna) with the co-operation of UNIRE (the Italian public board in charge of horseracing government).
The best Gentlemen Drivers in the world will be in Italy to compete in the Championship. The races will be the most exciting part of an event that will also be a social and cultural occasion, with the purpose of promoting horseracing towards always new people, in order to encourage them to discover the significant aspects of this sport that joins, how the slogan of the first national Federnat meeting 25 years ago said, "ecology, leisure time and sport".
The Gentlemen Drivers World Championship 2006 will take place in Rome and Naples from July 19th until July 22nd 2006 with the participation of the 13 qualified Gentlemen, who will represent Usa, Canada, Australia, Holland, New Zealand, France, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Sweden, Italy plus the outstanding world champion, the Italian Biasuzzi.
The program will start Tuesday July 19th with the arrival of the foreign delegations in Rome. On Wednesday in Naples the first 3 races of the Championship will take place at Agnano Racetrack; on Thursday and Saturday in Rome at Tor di Valle racetrack the other 9 races of the competition will be run. The 2006 world champion will then be appointed in Rome in the evening of July 22nd.
THE 25TH MEETING WITH THE ITALIAN GENTLEMEN
Friday July 21st at the prestigious location of the Etruscan Museum of Valle Giulia (where also the charity cultural venture will be performed) there will be the gala dinner in honour of the 25th Meeting with the Italian Gentlemen. 250 guests representing the Amateurs Clubs of all over Italy, the international delegations, public authorities and the Italian horseracing establishment will take part to this exceptional event.
During the evening there will be the traditional awards ceremony with the nomination of the new "Honour Members" and "Horseracing Friends". Among others, these yearn rewards have been given in the past years to Carla Fracci, Zubin Mehta, Severino Gazzelloni, Peter Ustinov, Indro Montanelli, Giorgio Strehler, Umberto Veronesi, Giorgio Albertazzi, Gloria Gaynor, Nanni Loy, Monica Vitti, Enzo Biagi, Alberto Sordi, Andrea Bocelli, Giò Pomodoro, Primo Nebiolo and Mario Monicelli. THE CHARITY CULTURAL VENTURE
This year the social and economical commitment of the annual Italian Gentlemen "cultural venture" will be dedicated to the well-deserving activity of the Archaeological Etruscan Museum of Valle Giulia in Rome. The Museum will receive a contribution for the restoration of the precious work known as the "married couple sarcophagus", masterpiece of the Etruscan funerary art dating back to the end of VI sec. a.C., found in Cerveteri and currently part of the Museum collection.
Federnat will perform the contribution with an own donation, along with a percentage of the races prize money, freely donated by the Gentlemen participating to Federnat Grand Prix.
THE 25TH GRAN PREMIO FEDERNAT
Saturday July 22nd, always at Tor di Valle Racetrack in Rome, the XXV edition of Federnat Grand Prix, reserved to the Gentlemen Drivers who are also Federnat members, will take place.
