Claës-L. „Ugh“ Ljung of Alvhaga in Fegen passed away on March 15th 2024 after a long illness. He was 78 years old. He was a great friend of the amateurs and leaves a big void behind him both in Sweden and abroad.
Claës was elected FEGAT Vice President in 1985 and from 1993 up to now he was the President of FEGAT. He was appointed honorary member of FEGAT in 2020 due to his great commitment. Working for FEGAT was perfect for Claës. He had contacts all over the world and spoke 6 languages fluently. We will always remember his apt speeches; part of him was simply a showman.
Those who have been in contact with Claës over the years know that he always began the conversation - whether he was calling or being called - with the word "Ugh."
Claës had many strings to his bow - he was an artist, a municipal councillor, a sailor, a sheep farmer and, not the least, a trotting horse breeder. His stud farm included Active Bowler - winner of the Swedish Breeding Race, the Swedish Trotting Criterion and Sprintermästaren - stabled as a breeding stallion.
When it was known to the trotting world we received condolences from all over the world. He can never be replaced, he was really unique!
May Claës rest in peace and he will remain a bright memory for all of us knowing him!
